3. Due to the vast history of folk music around the globe, calling this album The Definitive Folk Collection seems quite goofy and even a bit self-righteous. However, Highpoint Records did put together a nice track set of contemporary British folk culled from the remarkable Topic Records label.8/

5. The nice thing about this 6-cd box set is not only the music itself, but also the two booklets included. The first looks like the anastatic reprint of the original booklet, while the second is a collection of recent and original contributions with some nice old photos of musicians. The wealth of information contained in the older booklet is /5(95).

6. I only have 20 of his CDs so far, everyone different, everyone a five star recording. Any collection without John Martyn's Solid Air album is by definition incomplete. The album is permanently recorded in my car; I listen to some of it almost every day and all of at least once a /5(31).

Whether this is intended to be a best-of for British folk-rock of the late '60s and early '70s is unclear from the packaging, but New Folk Routes is a pretty good track survey of the scene (though one cut is of a fiddler from the early s). As you might expect, Fairport Convention and their spinoffs are the main axis, with selections not only by Fairport, but also Sandy Denny.
